Please Note:
TNFS is not looking for an actor to fit a character description of any supposed script. TNFS is looking for the best actor among thousands of talents, and the parameters under which the judgement will be made are pure acting skills, dramatic and/or comedic abilities, timing, screen presence, charisma and so on. The winner will receive the prize and will be part of a movie, performing the part he's more suited to. Not the other way around! The winner is not someone who fits best our briefing. The winner is simply the best!

1- The Next Film Star Competition (“Competition”) is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged fifteen (15) to seventy (70) years except employees of The Soob Productions Limited (“The Soob”) and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and competition agencies and their immediate families (defined for the purpose of these rules as husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, or persons residing in the household of such employees), and anyone else professionally connected with this Competition. Entrants who are under the age of eighteen (18) must seek their parents or guardian’s permission before entering this Competition. Applicants must have a valid passport and may be asked to provide the Company with supporting documentation in order to substantiate this (i.e. birth certificate and/or valid passport). The Soob reserves the right to require at any time proof of identity and/or eligibility. Successful candidates might be offered freelance work or employment contracts, therefore applicants must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.

2. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these terms of service (“Terms”) when they enter this Competition as described in paragraph“7”.

3. The prize for this Competition (“Prize”) shall be provided by The Soob and includes:

  1. One Thousand Pounds (£1000) cheque (“First Prize”) and a supporting role in “A Better Day” feature film set on dates to be notified by The Soob, subject to production schedules, to the winner of the competition (“First Role Prize”);
  2. Acer Netbook (“Second Prize”) and a minor role in “A Better Day” feature film set on dates to be notified by The Soob, subject to production schedules, to the runner up (“Second Role Prize”);
  3. Ipod Nano (Third Prize) and minor role in “A Better Day” feature film set on dates to be notified by The Soob, subject to production schedules, to the third classified in the competition (“Third Role Prize”);

If the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups) is under the age of eighteen (18), the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups)  must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (Guest) of the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups) who is eighteen (18) years of age or older. The guest shall not be permitted to visit the ”A Better Day”  film set, nor participate in the Prize unless the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups) is under the age of eighteen (18), in which case their parent or guardian shall be permitted to visit the  ”A Better Day” film set with the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups) but shall not be permitted to participate in the  Role Prize. The Winner (or any of the Runner Ups) and their guest must travel together.
The dates of the First, Second and Third Role Prizes will be notified by The Soob and may be subject to change due to the rescheduling of ”A Better Day”  production. In the event of rescheduling, any change to the dates of the above mentioned Prizes will be communicated to the Winner (and Runner ups) within a reasonable time of such rescheduling. If applicable, the Winner (or any of the Runner Ups)  and/or their guest must obtain any approval appropriate for travel and absence, including any absence from school and work, during the Role Prize period.
The Winner, the Runner Ups and all the other competition applicants must provide their own accommodation for the whole time of the competition and the shooting of “A Better Day” Film, regardless of their provenience or town of residence. The Soob will not provide accommodation at any time during the competition or shooting dates to any of the applicants, finalists, winner or Runner-ups.
The Soob will not provide food or drinks at any time during the competition to any of the applicants, finalists, winner or Runner- ups.
As for participating in the Role Prize (First, Second and Third), the Winner, Runner-ups and Finalists must accept and agree to be bound by any and all specific terms and conditions and other requirements applicable for the Winner’s (Finalists and Runner- Ups) participation in the Role Prizes, and as set out in detail in the Confidentiality Agreement, Production Agreement and any other document which the Winner and Runner Ups will be required to sign for this purpose as deemed necessary by The Soob in its sole discretion. The Prizes are also subject to the terms and conditions of any third party services providers used as part of the Prizes without limitations.
Events may occur that renders the fulfillment of the Prizes (First, Second, Third Prize and/or all the Role Prizes and/or any element thereof) impossible due to unforeseen circumstances. In this situation, The Soob may at its discretion vary or amend the Prizes and the Winner and Runner ups agrees that no liability shall attach to The Soob or parties connected to The Soob as a result thereof.
Prize may be awarded in the form of voucher(s), coupon(s) and/or gift card(s) in The Soob's sole discretion. Selected Applicants are solely responsible for any other unspecified expenses related to the Prizes, including shipping/handling. If Selected Contestant is unable to participate in or accept the prize or any portion of the prize for any reason, The Soob shall have no further obligation to the Contestant. Any and all activities related to the prize are at the Selected Contestants' own risk and subject to whatever restrictions are imposed by the entities that govern such activities.

4- The Soob reserves the rights to amend, cancel or vary any of the terms listed in the competition’s rules, including the option to revoke the competition in case of an unsatisfactory number of applicants (350). The Soob reserves the rights to change any or all the dates and the locations of the events mentioned in the competition rules. In the event the dates were to be changed, The Soob will endure (but does not guarantee) to notify early in advance the new dates in order to give the applicants enough time to re-organize their schedule.

5- All entry fees must be submitted in advance and are not refundable in the event of cancellation through illness or other misadventure affecting the entrant. In the event of the competition cancellation, The Soob will only reimburse the entry fees infra mentioned (for details see the following section “How to enter”) to the applicants with the exception of the £1.50 Paypal transaction fee which will not be reimbursed at any time (see below paragraph “7”). The Soob is not bound to bring the competition to its completion, or to complete any or all of the competition stages when events may occur that The Soob considers, at its own discretion and judgement, the competition’s completion or continuation impossible to sustain. The fulfilment of the Role Prizes is subject to the realization of “A Better Day” feature film. In case of any change in the Development, Preproduction, Production of “A Better Day” Film including and not limited to Scheduling and Financing, which may prevent, delay or jeopardize the realization of “A Better Day” film, The Soob is not bound to any of the Winners, Runner ups or Finalists to provide alternatives to the Role Prizes assigned in the competition. It is therefore understood that the Supporting Role Prize and all the other Role Prizes are subject to the realization of “A Better Day” Feature film. The Soob is not bound in any way to provide The Role Prizes or an alternative role if the Feature Film “A Better Day” will not be produced due to unforeseen circumstances.

How To Enter

6- The Competition will start at 09.00 Greenwich Mean Time (“GMT”) on 8 June 2009. Entrants will be required to apply not later than midnight GMT on 16 August 2009 (the “Application Deadline”). No entries received after the Application Deadline will be eligible to win the Prizes. Applications sent by post must reach destination before the Application Deadline.

7- To apply, entrants must visit www.thenextfilmstarcompetition.com (the “Website”). The applicants are required to pay an entry fee of £25 using Paypal (plus £1.50 for Paypal transaction fee) and fill the application including the Paypal Transaction Number as a receipt of payment. Alternatively applicants can print a hard copy of the application form that can be found in the website and send it by post with a cheque of £25 payable to: The Soob Productions Limited. Applicants must send either a monologue, a scene extract, or show reel of any style and genre in any video form including and not limited to DVD, DV tape, VHS, Quicktime File, Avi Media, FLV File, Mobile Phone Video Recording, CD-Rom with Paypal Transaction Number clearly visible on its cover or case. The quality of the video recording is not relevant and will not play an influential role in the judgement of the actors’ performance. Applicants who prefer to send a cheque must send their video alongside with the cheque and the hard copy of the application. Postage fees are sole responsibility of the applicants. Applicants must include a SAE envelope in case they wanted to have their video sent back.

8- Entrants are not obliged to purchase any products (such as tickets) in order to participate in the Competition and the purchasing of any products does not influence Entrants’ chances of winning.

9- Entries that are incomplete, defaced or damaged will be deemed invalid. Videos lacking of the Paypal Transaction Number (in case of electronic payments) or sent without the £25 cheque (in case of cheque payment) will be deemed invalid.  No responsibility will be accepted for Entries lost, delayed or damaged in transmission or by the post service. The Soob will not reimburse the fees of applicants whose applications are void or deemed invalid.

The Competition

10- The Judges will choose 40 actors (“First Selection”) out of all the applicants, who best qualify for their dramatic and/or comedic skills, screen presence, vocal quality, timing, versatility, credibility, emotional delivery and scenic impact. The names of the 40 selected actors will be published in alphabetical order in the competition website on 23 August 2009.

11- From 24 August till Midnight GMT of 30 August 2009 (SMS Voting Period), all the applicants’ videos (minus the 40 of the First Selection) will be uploaded and displayed in the competition website.  In the SMS Voting Period, UK residents are welcomed to send Text Messages to vote their 10 favourite applicant. The selection will make use of a premium rate phone service.

  1. In this way SMS voters are required to send a text to the short-code as indicated in the competition information. The charge per text message will be the price indicated in the competition information plus standard network charges. The total cost will therefore be dependent on the entrant’s network. The Soob does not accept responsibility for any SMS entry charges.
  2. SMS voters will receive a SMS confirmation text message of their entry, which may include information about the program, The Soob or other services relating to the competition.
  3. Voters must have the permission of the bill payer before calling. Voters may be able to text from outside the UK (although entry is restricted to UK residents). There is no warranty that the service is available or appropriate for use in locations outside the UK. Charges for entering the competition will depend on the relevant service provider’s international text message rates. Charges will be deducted from the entrant’s available credit time if they are a pre-pay customer or appear on their monthly statement if they are a pay-monthly customer.

In this way the first ten (10) Audience Favourites Actors will be selected and added to the 40 Actors of the First Selection. In this way they are given the chance to improve their presentation and perform in front of the judges in the Live Audition (see paragraph “12”).

12- All 50 actors of the First Selection plus the Ten Audience Favourites will be required to attend the Live Audition that will take place on 4 September 2009 in Central London. During the Live Audition each of the 50 actors will be required to perform a monologue in front of the Judges, which will take notes and select twenty (20) actors (“Short Listed Actors”) to perform in pairs a dialogue piece (which will be sent to them prior the live audition) for final selection. The Judges will therefore choose the ten (10) best actors out of the twenty Short Listed Actors for the final round of the competition (“Finalists”).

13- In the days following the Live Audition, the ten Finalists will be given four short screenplays (maximum length of five minutes each) written especially for them with a fair part to showcase their talent and ability (“Short Film”), to learn and act for “the shooting”. The director will put the contestant together in groups for the shooting of the short films. This is to judge the great teamwork, the connection between them and how good they are at taking instructions. The short films will be shot on location and edited, scored and finalized in the following weeks. The short films will be screened on 1 October 2009 at the Prince Charles Cinema in front of an Audience, the Judges and industry professionals. At the end of the screening, the Winner and the Runner-ups will be announced. The First, Second and Third Prize (see paragraph “3”) will be given on the same night. Dates, venues and details may be subject to change as described on paragraphs “4” and “5”. Similarly the presence of the Guests is subject to their availability, since, due nature of the film industry, any major Film Work commitment taken after the beginning of this competition might clash with the dates of this competition events.

14- In the event that the Winner (or any of the Runner-ups) is not available on the dates on which the Prize must be taken for any reason whatsoever, The Soob reserves the right to select an alternative Winner (or Runner up) in which case the original Winner (or Runner up) forfeits his/her rights to the Prize.

15- There is no cash alternative to the Second and Third Prize (or any part thereof). The above mentioned Prizes (and any part thereof) are subject to availability, non-transferable, non-negotiable and non-refundable.

16- The Soob reserves the right to refuse any entry for any reason at its absolute discretion and to disqualify any entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of these terms and conditions.

17- The Soob shall not be liable for: (i) telephone system, telephone or computer hardware, software or other technical or computer malfunctions, lost connections, disconnections, delays or transmission errors; (ii) data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry or other materials; (iii) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind, including death caused by the prize or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of a prize, or from participation in the Contest; or (iv) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with the Contest. The Soob disclaims any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participating in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Contest. The Soob reserves the right to cancel or suspend the Contest, in its sole discretion, should it receive fewer than 350 entries, or due to circumstances beyond its control, including natural disasters. Submissions may be destroyed. The Soob may prohibit a Contestant from participating in the Contest or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines such contestant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, deception, or any other unfair playing practices of intending to annoy, abuse, threaten, undermine or harass any other players or The Soob representatives. The Soob reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug, computer problem, unauthorized intervention or other causes beyond The Soob's control, corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the Contest. The Soob may prohibit a contestant from participating in the Contest or winning prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines such contestant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest in any way by cheating, hacking, deception, or any other unfair playing practices of intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other players or The Soob representatives. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SOOB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY FEES) TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

18- Each applicant may be required to participate in publicity connected with this Competition and may be filmed, photographed or otherwise recorded by The Soob or other third parties for publicity purposes and he/she expressly consents to the use of his/her personal data for such purposes without further consent or payment.

19- The data collected through this Competition will be used by The Soob only in connection with the running of this Competition, including (without limitation) for the purpose of sending an email to entrants to confirm whether the entrant has been selected or won the Prizes or not. Video Material

20- All the video recordings sent by the entrants will not be given back unless applicants provide a SAE envelope. The Soob reserves the right to choose what portion of the sent material (and the length of it) will be more suitable for display on the website.

21- All the films and video recorded during and for the competition remain property of the Soob Productions Limited, including but not limited to interviews, backstage footage and short films. By sending their videos to the competition, the applicants allow The Soob to use them in accordance to this Terms for the competition including but not limited to competition website video gallery and publicity. Should any of the applicants wish to obtain a copy of a video featuring his performance, a fee may be charged by The Soob at its own discretion. The copy of the video performance is provided solely for own personal, non-commercial use and not for purposes of resale, distribution or public display. Please note: if any of the final short films were to be picked by a TV Network for commercial purpose, a further arrangement should be made between The Soob and the actors involved.
